Community Service Committee
The Community Service Committee identifies community needs and develops projects to meet those needs. The projects benefit groups ranging from youth to seniors.
Legislative/Environmental Committee
The Legislative/Environmental Committee examines legislative and environmental issues affecting senior citizens residing in Delaware, particularly in Sussex County. Members of the Legislative Committee meet virtually with the First State Advocacy Team to respond to issues facing seniors and to inform legislation that is moving through the General Assembly. The Committee members participate in the Annual Lobby Day in May, meeting face-to-face with Sussex County Legislators to discuss planned and pending legislation related to seniors.
Scholarship Committee
The Scholarship Committee develops criteria for the scholarships to be awarded by the Chapter and selects the annual recipients. The group is also responsible for planning and conducting fundraising activities to support the program. Currently, the Committee offers two annual $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors from Indian River High School. It also awards three annual scholarships to adult students at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown. Two of the DTCC scholarships go to nursing students and one to a non-nursing student.
Tour Committee
The purpose of the Tour Committee is to plan enjoyable, educational, and entertaining trips for the members of the Chapter. Trips are designed to offer a good value for participants, while still providing resources that allow the Committee to make contributions to organizations that are addressing critical community needs.
