Community Service Committee
Purpose: The Community Service Committee identifies community needs and develops projects to meet those needs. The projects benefit groups ranging from youth to seniors.
Meeting Times & Location: To Be Determined. Contact: Ted Spickler 302-927-0050
Purpose: The Legislative/Environmental Committee examines legislative and environmental issues affecting senior citizens residing in Delaware, particularly Sussex County. Members of the Legislative Committee are currently meeting virtually with the First State Advocacy Team to respond to senior issues to move legislation in the General Assembly. We foresee continuing our Annual Lobby Day in May meeting face to face with Sussex County Legislators to pass AARP sponsored legislation.
Meeting Times & Location: Due to COVID, The Legislative/Environmental Committee will not meet until the South Coastal Library is open for public meetings.
Contact: Committee Chair: Chuck Schonder, (703) 881-2491 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Purpose: The purpose of the Scholarship Committee is to develop criteria for scholarships to be awarded by the Chapter and to select annual recipients. The group is also responsible for planning and conducting fundraising activities to support the program. Currently, the Committee offers two annual $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from Indian River High School. It also awards six $500 scholarships to adult students at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown, three in the fall semester and three in the spring semester. Each semester, two of the scholarships go to nursing students and one to a non-nursing student.
Meeting Times & Location: The Committee meets at the call of the chair, approximately bi-monthly. Dates, times, and locations of these meetings may be determined by contacting the Committee Co-Chair.
Contact: Committee Co-Chair: Ida Crist, email@example.com, (302) 732-6336.
Purpose: The purpose of the Tour Committee is to plan enjoyable, educational, and entertaining trips for the members of our Chapter. Trips are designed to offer a good value for participants, while still providing resources that allow the Committee to make contributions to organizations that are addressing critical community needs.
Meeting Times & Location: The committee meets every month except July and August. The meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:30 AM at the South Coastal Library.
